Product Details
MOTS-c, a mitochondria-derived peptide, has emerged as a molecule with profound implications for health and longevity. This innovative peptide has captured the attention of researchers due to its potential to impact metabolism, energy production, and overall well-being. The demonstration of MOTS-c as a peptide encoded as an sORF in the mtDNA that is metabolically and developmentally regulated, which has endocrine-like effects on muscle metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and weight regulation, establishes its role as a member of a new class of mitochondrial signals which can be called “MDPs” or mitochondrial-derived peptides (Lee et al., 2013). Treatment of rodents with humanin, MOTS-c, and SHLP2 can enhance insulin sensitivity and protect against age-associated metabolic disorders. The mitochondria’s involvement in maintaining cellular homeostasis extends beyond energy production to include a regulatory role in various processes, including immune/inflammatory responses, proteostasis, adaptive stress responses, and apoptosis (43). As a metabolic homeostasis regulator, MOTS-c is being evaluated as a potential therapy for the mitochondrial and glycolytic impairments associated with chronic fatigue syndrome.
